Newport News Marriott at City Center

Great location! Easy access to airport, bases and shopping. Many awesome restaurants nearby. Special thanks to Kerry in the Concierge Lounge for making our experience memorable and saving the day by finding and returning my purse to me, we will be back!

I was excited to finally stay at this Marriott since my only experience was being in the lobby briefly for a small photoshoot years ago. The location is great in that City Center is well located to get to several areas in Newport News, and the hotel overlooks the main shopping area and lake, which is peaceful. I want to commend the staff for their professionalism, friendliness, and overall helpful demeanor. I failed to do a thorough look through of the room before I got settled in because I was late for the event I was in town for and needed to change out of travel clothes and get there quickly. When I returned to the room a few hours later, I noticed several questionable housekeeping and room security issues that I honestly could and should have caught when I first arrived. I quickly reported these items to the front desk and told them that I should have noticed and reported earlier but was distracted. They were happy to relocate me to a better room for the night. I wish I got the names of the individuals working, but they were the young lady and gentleman working the evening of 11/22. The second room was absolutely cleaner, but also had different signs of wear that generally just happen as hotels age. I was happy to have peace of mind, so I didn't need to call and alert the desk to the issues at the time. As I said, the staff is fantastic and I would be happy to return-- I think a bit of attention to housekeeping and maybe some appropriate updates to the rooms may be in store, but I would absolutely not hesitate to stay here again.

The staff were excellent and really went out of their way to help our stay be more pleasant. Our bar tender AJ was so very helpful and the bar food was surprisingly delicious. The rooms are older and the hot water was absent in the morning. Take a shower at night!! It worked well for us as a family member was having surgery at Riverside Hospital. Thanks to all who helped make our visit a little more pleasant. N

I was staying here while I was traveling for work. The room was pretty nice. My only real complaints were the shower/tub were a tiny bit dirty and there was standing water in the tub while I took my showers. Nothing too crazy. The bed wasn't the most comfortable either. Otherwise, it was in a pretty nice location. The room overall was nice and clean. The front counter staff were attentive and nice. The breakfast option is to eat at the restaurant inside the hotel. The buffet comes in around $30, just FYI. You can order from the menu as well, but things were pricy. We ended up not eating there and got food elsewhere.

Was here for a business conference but didn't stay here. Very nice set up with great food and very clean. Great location and plenty of parking.

I attended a soundscapes concert. The music was terrific. These young people are prodigies. This program was established in 2009, in the Newport news school system. I want to thank the organizers of the program, for a well planned evening. I am asking all who may read this, to please support soundscapes with any amount of money affordable. Thanks .

Stay here in room 526. Amazing view. The rooms are a little worn but definitely decent. The staff there were very very nice people. If I make it back down to the area I would not hesitate to stay here again.

This is my second visit to the hotel. It is very beautiful and convenient to alot of eating and shopping areas and the staff is very friendly. However my stay this time is not as pleasant as the first. When we arrived we noticed that the shower/ bath tub was dirty. Also a glass in the room was not clean. When we left back out we stopped to the front desk to ask that the room be cleaned. When we returned from shopping the room was still not cleaned but we settled on cleaning it ourselves. Later on that night the toilet started backing up. We was scared to keep flushing it . I think the upper floors need more work so we will ask can we change rooms tomorrow because we have one more night to stay.
